Qualifications: Balanced Body Comprehensive Certification; 4.5 years as a teacher and 11 years practicing Pilates;
Why I teach Pilates: I enjoy participating in the client's journey to well-being through Pilates. Helping clients achieve their goals, reduce the pain or tension in their bodies, to move properly and become more aware of their bodies and what they are capable of doing. It feels great when a client has an aha moment where they feel the connection in the body. Or when they are able to do an exercise that has been a challenge for them. Or when they just feel better at the end of class.
Prior to Pilates I was immersed in the world of architecture. There are elements of architecture that apply to Pilates, such as balance and symmetry in design, balance and counter balance in construction. It's the perfect combination of my two passions.
Favorite Pilates exercise: Tendon stretch on the reformer and the chair. I love the difficulty of tendon stretch, the amount of strength and flexibility required to complete the exercise. Not to mention the fluidity.
My personal path to Pilates: I started my Pilates practice after my hysterectomy. I had two prior procedures in the same spot along the bikini line, so after the hysterectomy my abs had been cut through three times. Pilates helped me reconnect to my abdominal muscles and regain my flexibility. A few years later I experienced some other chronic pain issues and discovered that I had a stenosis and spondylolisthesis. These issues should have given me intense pain and my doctor was surprised when I didn't complain of constant discomfort. When I told him that I was a Pilates instructor, he told me to keep doing what I was doing. I sincerely believe that Pilates is the secret to longevity, pain-free living, and physical fitness. It really is the fountain of youth!
In my free time: I binge watch all the shows I missed during my week of Pilates teaching. Art and architecture, wire wrap jewelry, ornament making, Ukrainian egg decorating and sketching are my artistic outlets. And I love running, swimming, Pilates, and all things Shiba Inu!
